What information StudyPilot may process
StudyPilot is designed to help you organise study material and turn it into summaries, flashcards and quizzes. Depending on how you use the app, it may process:
- photographs and scans of study material you capture or import;
- PDF files you import and text you paste;
- text extracted from material through OCR (optical character recognition);
- AI-generated summaries, flashcards and quizzes created from your material;
- your courses, modules, topics, exam plans and study session logs;
- your preferences and app settings.
Study material can contain personal information, such as notes that mention you, your teachers or other people. Please treat such material with care, as described below.

Why the information is processed
StudyPilot processes the information above to provide the features you use, including scanning and storing study material, extracting text, generating summaries, flashcards and quizzes, planning exams and tracking study time. You remain in control of what is processed and when.

Local processing
Much of StudyPilot's processing can happen on your device and information can be stored locally on your device. Photographs, scans, PDFs, extracted text and your study records can be processed on-device and stored locally, and are not sent to us simply because you use the app.

External processing
Some features may use an external OCR or AI provider to extract text or generate summaries, flashcards and quizzes. If you enable such a feature and a provider is configured, the relevant material may be transmitted to that configured provider so it can process it on our behalf.
We do not upload all study material to external providers. Transmission happens only when a feature that relies on an external provider is enabled, and only for the content needed to provide that feature. When such features are used, the external provider's own terms and privacy practices may also apply. Before using a feature that transmits material externally, you should be aware that the content is being sent to that provider.

Care with sensitive material
Please exercise care when processing sensitive material. Before photographing, scanning, importing or transmitting study material that contains sensitive personal information, consider whether you need to, and check which features are enabled. If a feature uses an external OCR or AI provider, sensitive content may be sent to that provider. You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to process any material you import.

Permissions used by the app
Depending on the platform and the features you use, StudyPilot may request permissions such as:
- camera access, so you can photograph or scan study material;
- photo or file access, so you can import images and PDFs;
- permission to show notifications, if you enable study reminders.
You can control these permissions through your device settings.

Third-party services
StudyPilot is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, whose terms and privacy practices apply to your purchase and account with them. If you enable a feature that uses an external OCR or AI provider, that provider may process material you choose to send, as described above. We do not sell your personal information.

Retention
Information stored locally on your device remains there until you delete it or delete the app. Any information processed by a third-party service you have configured is retained according to that service's terms and our processing instructions, and only for as long as needed to provide the relevant feature.

Security
We take reasonable measures to help protect information processed through StudyPilot from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You can help protect your study material by keeping your device secure and using its built-in security features.

Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights in relation to personal information, including the right to access, correct or delete information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. Deletion
You can delete material and information stored by StudyPilot at any time through the app, by clearing the app's data on your device, or by deleting the app. You may also ask us to delete personal information we hold about you by contacting hello@ojpapps.com.

Children's privacy
StudyPilot is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through StudyPilot, contact us at hello@ojpapps.com and we will take steps to address it.

International processing
If you use StudyPilot outside the United Kingdom, and you enable a feature that uses an external OCR or AI provider, material you send may be transmitted to, and processed in, countries other than your own, including the United States. We take reasonable steps to protect information when it is processed by third-party services.

Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last changed. Continued use of StudyPilot after changes are made means you accept the updated policy, where permitted by law.
